FAQ

Q: Who can benefit from counseling?

A.  Because most of our personal problems are interpersonal in nature, people who wish to improve their relationships are excellent candidates for therapy.  Therapy is intended to assist people who would like to gain support from the therapist, increase self-awareness, and learn new healthy coping skills to handle life’s unavoidable personal and interpersonal challenges.

Q: How much do I have to share?

A.  You decide what, how much, and when you share information with the therapist. Some people are very talkative even from an initial meeting while others are not.  When you are ready to share your life and the challenges you are facing with the therapist, she would gladly listen to your story.

Q: How long will I be in therapy?

A.  Several factors help you predict how long you will be in therapy.  They are what made you seek out therapy, how motivated you are, and how complicated the issue is.  I provide the space where you feel psychologically safe so you can unfold the issue(s) that has been consciously or unconsciously troubling you.

Q. How many times should I take it?

A.  It varies greatly from person to person. The reason is that mental problems are often intricately twisted and intertwined. Some people get better just by confessing their worries, while others become aware of problems that they have consciously or unconsciously avoided, and sit down and aim to resolve their mental worries.

Q: Can I use my health insurance?

A. Mental health is considered non-medical practice in Japan thus if you have Japanese National insurance, it will not be covered.  If you have International medical/health insurance (i.e.,GeoBlue, BlueCross Global ), your mental health services may be covered by them.  Please contact your insurance carrier directly about fee reimbursement.
